With a limited production of only 150 units, the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 is undoubtedly an intriguing collector’s item – and beyond that, exceptionally exclusive. With the SLR 722, Mercedes-Benz paid tribute to the historic victory in the Italian endurance classic Mille Miglia, won in 1955 by British racing driver Stirling Moss and his co-driver Dennis Jenkinson, driving the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR with the starting number 722.
The SLR 722 has a 5.5 liter V8 supercharged engine from Mercedes-AMG with 650 hp and 820 Nm of torque. The five-speed automatic transmission has been specially designed for high torque and ensures a sprint to the 100 km/h mark in just 3.7 seconds.
Approximately 300 parts were modified on the car. This resulted in an increase in power by 18 kW (25 hp) and 40 Nm compared to the standard SLR. The use of lighter oil tanks, insulation materials, an aluminum damper housing, and components made of CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic) in the footwell and at the rear wheel arches also reduced the weight by 44 kg.
