Ferrari Dino 246 GT at a glance

The Ferrari Dino 246 GT, a car that etches a significant mark in Ferrari’s storied history, debuted at the Turin Motor Show in 1969 and was produced until 1974. Crafted as an homage to Enzo Ferrari’s son, Alfredino, who tragically passed away at a young age, the Dino does not carry the iconic Ferrari badge, establishing its own identity within the brand. Approximately 2,487 units of the Dino 246 GT were crafted, making it a cherished model among collectors and enthusiasts.

At the heart of the 246 GT lies a 2.4L V6 engine – in which Alfredino, nicknamed “Dino,” was heavily involved in the development – mounted transversely to enable a compact, streamlined design. This engine arrangement allowed for a more svelte, aerodynamic silhouette, something that was incredibly innovative at the time, marking the model as a pioneer in design and engineering.

Pininfarina crafted its voluptuous shape, characterized by its seductive curves, elongated nose, and a cabin that effortlessly melts into its muscular rear haunches, a design that became an instant classic, often hailed as one of the most beautiful cars ever made and remains as a symbol of both poignant family history and groundbreaking design, celebrated and sought after by collectors and Ferrari enthusiasts around the globe.

ABOUT THE Vehicle we are AUCTIONING

We are in the fortunate position to be able to offer one of the most beautiful cars ever made – the Ferrari Dino 246 GT. This particular example was delivered to Switzerland in 1971 and has had four owners to date. The current owner had the Dino completely restored by Zanasi Maranello for approximately $270,000. The vehicle was fully disassembled, the engine was overhauled, repainted and the interior was reupholstered and upgraded. This Dino is essentially a one-off.

The vehicle is registered in Switzerland – Swiss VAT has been settled – has approximately 5,704 km on the odometer and has always been serviced and maintained – a service was performed in 2022. Accessories such as restoration receipts, spare keys, service book, and tools are included.

DINOS CLASSIC 5-SPOKE DESIGN

The wheels of the Ferrari Dino 246 GT are a classic piece of design in their own right, seamlessly contributing to the overall aesthetic and performance of the vehicle. With a typical setup of 14-inch Cromodora alloys with a five-spoke design, the wheels lend an elegant yet sporty touch to the Dino. The juxtaposition of the gentle curves of the car against the angular, straightforward design of the wheels creates a compelling visual harmony. Behind these iconic wheels, the Dino was fitted with disc brakes on all four corners, vented at the front for improved cooling and solid at the rear.

FULLY RESTORED DREAM IN RED

The cockpit of this fully restored Ferrari Dino 246 GT is a breathtaking blend of luxury and meticulous craftsmanship. Adorned in a lavish red Alcantara, the seats are not merely a place to sit but an experience, with a diamond cutting pattern elevating their aesthetic appeal. This plush red fabric also gracefully extends to the center console, parts of the door panels and footwells, creating a rich, enveloping cabin experience. The Ferrari logo, meticulously embroidered into the headrests, serves as a subtle nod to its illustrious heritage, while providing an understated contrast to the predominantly red interior. In a gentle juxtaposition, the dashboard and its associated covers are rendered in a sleek black, offering not only a visual break but also highlighting the attention to detail in every aspect of the restoration. Every element, from the lush upholstery to the finely stitched emblems, culminates in a cockpit that is as much a feast for the eyes as the Dino is a joy to drive.

HOMMAGE TO ALFREDINO “DINO”

The Ferrari Dino 246 GT is powered by a 2.4-liter, V6 engine which is mid-mounted, adhering to Enzo Ferrari’s belief in placing the engine behind the driver but ahead of the rear axle for optimal weight distribution and handling dynamics. This engine, codenamed Tipo 135, possesses a 65-degree configuration and is constructed of cast iron, while the cylinder heads are made from aluminum.

With a bore and stroke of 92.5 mm and 60 mm respectively, the engine generates a power output of 195 hp (145 kW) at 7,600 rpm and 226 Nm (166 lb-ft) of torque at 5,500 rpm. It’s equipped with a trio of Weber 40 DCNF carburetors and a compression ratio of 9.0:1. All this power is directed through a 5-speed manual transmission which enables the Dino to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in roughly 7.1 seconds, achieving a top speed of 235 km/h (146 mph).
