Ferrari 296 GTB at a glance

The Ferrari 296 GTB represents an evolutionary leap in Ferrari’s lineage, building upon the engineering and design philosophies of its illustrious predecessors. Officially unveiled as the first “true six-cylinder Ferrari” at the Geneva Motor Show on June 24, 2021, the 296 GTB heralds a new era in the marque’s pursuit of electrified performance. This introduction marks a distinct shift from earlier six-cylinder models, which were offered under the Dino brand without the Ferrari logo or crest until 1974.

At the heart of the 296 GTB lies a revolutionary 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine, paired with an electric motor, collectively unleashing a formidable 830 horsepower. This powerhouse propels the supercar from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds, achieving a top speed of over 330 km/h.

The dynamic development of the 296 GTB was aimed at increasing the car’s performance, offering unrivaled driving pleasure and improving the usability of the power and hybrid layout. There has been no shortage of new components such as the TMA actuator and the ECS body sensor or functions such as the ‘ABS evo’ controller.

Framing the 296 GTB’s sophisticated braking system, the car boasts high-performance ceramic brakes, designed to manage the intense power output and agility of this model. The 296 GTB also features Ferrari’s innovative all-wheel-drive system, a first for this model, augmented by electric Side Slip Control (eSSC) for unmatched torque vectoring and precise handling.

The 296 GTB’s cabin, inspired by the fully digital interface of the SF90 Stradale, mirrors its aesthetic, shaping the interior design. While the SF90 emphasized cutting-edge technology and a break from tradition, the 296 GTB integrates its technical features into a refined and elegant appearance, in harmony with the exterior.

The cockpit focuses on the driver, with most instruments oriented towards the driver’s side. It features a dashboard split that showcases the steering wheel and instrument panel, supported centrally by two converging braces. Side satellites with capacitive areas complete the setup. The passenger side sports a minimalist design with a display that invites engagement, almost like a co-pilot.

The 296 is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 turbo engine paired with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 830 horsepower. The petrol engine features a 120-degree angle between the cylinder banks with paired connecting rods sharing a crankpin. It includes cross-flow cylinder heads with four valves per cylinder, operated by two overhead camshafts per bank using roller finger followers; valve clearance is adjusted with hydraulic lifters. The exhaust sides of the cylinder heads face inward, where the two turbochargers are also located between the banks.

A high-voltage battery pack beneath the floor, with a capacity of 7.45 kWh, enables an electric range of 25 km. The sports car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, with a top speed stated as over 330 km/h.
