PORSCHE 997 GT3 RS 4.0 at a glance

intro_gt3

In the annals of automotive history, certain models emerge not just as flag bearers of technology and performance, but also as symbols of an era. The Porsche 997 GT3 RS 4.0, unveiled in 2011, is undoubtedly one of them. At the tail end of the 997 generation, Porsche gifted the automotive world with a marvel. A mere 600 units graced roads and tracks worldwide, making each encounter with this car an event in itself. Its silhouette, while unmistakably 911, carried the aggressive and aerodynamic flourishes that promised performance – from the large rear wing to the assertive front canards.

Beneath the skin, it was all business. The 4.0-liter flat-six engine was a naturally aspirated behemoth, the largest ever to find a home in the rear of a 911. Producing a hefty 500 horsepower and 460 Nm of torque, which make the GT3 RS 4.0 surge from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in a mere 3.9 seconds.

As the successor to the GT3 RS 3.8, the RS 4.0 naturally also focused on outstanding circuit suitability. In initial test drives on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the GT3 RS 4.0 took just 7:27 min to cover the 21 km track, making it 6 s faster than its predecessor, the RS 3.8, and still 1 s faster than the 612 hp V10 mid-engine Carrera GT super sports car.

ABOUT THE Vehicle we are AUCTIONING

We are truly excited to auction a genuine racing legend this week. The Porsche 997 GT3 RS 4.0, delivered to Switzerland in 2011, has only approximately 7,000 km on the odometer and is in top condition. Despite its absolute racing character, this RS was never driven on the track.

The two previous owners have maintained the car in a collector’s condition, as evidenced by the low mileage of only 7,000 km for its age. All services were carried out on schedule. All documents, including the service book, warranty book, manual, spare key, car cover, certificates, etc., are included in the delivery. A new service will be performed before delivery.

CENTER-LOCK MOTORSPORT WHEELS

The Porsche 997 GT3 RS 4.0 boasts 19-inch white center-lock motorsport wheels, a striking visual testament to its racing DNA. These lightweight forged aluminum wheels enhance handling by reducing unsprung weight. They’re paired with the superior Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) system: large cross-drilled, vented discs with multi-piston calipers, ensuring swift and reliable stopping power – measuring 410mm at the front and 380mm at the rear.

DEFIANTLY FREE FROM DECORATION

The plain, functional interior with its simple clutter-free steering wheel, stubby little gearlever with a six-speed gate etched upon it and a roll-cage filling the rear-view mirror..- it shouldn’t be any other way. In a world increasingly obsessed with worshipping paint-to-sample 911s with chintzy stitching details, this 4-litre is defiantly free from decoration. Its charisma is innate, not applied.

The simplicity, the manual gearbox and the upright glasshouse of the 997 undoubtedly creates a sense of old-school sensibilities. In this sea of minimalism, the striking red and black combination emerges as a compelling narrative. Black leather seats, offset by vibrant red Alcantara, immediately draw the eye. The Alcantara steering wheel, accented by contrasting red stitches, further echoes this dynamic color theme, culminating in the emblematic red ‘RS 4.0’ stitching on the headrests.

NATURALLY ASPIRATED FLAT-SIX ENGINE

Beneath the sculpted rear of the Porsche 997 GT3 RS 4.0 roars an engineering masterpiece: a naturally aspirated flat-six engine. This powerplant, one of the largest capacities within the revered 911 lineage, boasts a generous 4.0-liter displacement, offering an unparalleled fusion of power and agility.

Its sheer potency is evident: 500 horsepower (373 kW) springs to life at a spine-tingling 8,250 RPM, while a peak torque of 460 Nm unfurls at 5,750 RPM. Dive deeper, and its precision engineering reveals itself. An over-square design, characterized by its 102.7 mm bore and 80.4 mm stroke, facilitates the engine’s zest for high revs, enabling efficient power delivery. Yet, it’s the nuanced touches that truly resonate with enthusiasts. The resonance intake system, equipped with a variable flap, harmoniously modulates power across the rev range. Paired with a featherlight titanium exhaust, not only is back pressure minimized, but the engine also sings a raw, unmistakable note.
